Divide and Conquer

A small army might defeat a large country if it can arrange to take on just one city at a time. The skill of seeing a set of manageable cities rather than a vast, unbeatable land is the most important one a programmer must learn. In the case of Self, you must learn to see any complex system as a set of interacting objects. You can then worry about the objects one at a time, as well as study their interactions individually.
